Compré este libro para comprobar si realmente era un libro tan bueno como decían y porque amó el género de fantasía. Desafortunadamente, fue decepcionante. Sin embargo, debo admitir que el principio de la historia es cautivante y te lleva a querer saber más sobre esta misteriosa asesina, Celaena Sardothien. Personalmente, me encantan las heroínas que son luchadoras y se valen por sí mismas por lo que instantáneamente adore el personaje de Celaena. No obstante, una vez que llegan al castillo la historia se vuelve aburrida y poco interesante. Incluso los resultados de los diferentes retos dentro de la competencia fueron predecibles. También sentí que el romance opacó la historia y que la pareja de Celaena y Dorian fue un poco forzada. Las partes que realmente disfruté fueron las que mostraban la amistad entre Nehemia y Celaena, y las escenas en las que aparecía la reina Elena. Además, creo que hubiera sido más interesante si la autora hubiera explorado más sobre el pasado de Celaena y cómo el haber sido asesina afecta su presente. En este libro, se la mostró más como una princesa que como la habilidosa asesina que supuestamente era. En general, la forma de escribir de la autora fue buena y encontré muchas frases que me encantaron pero no estoy particularmente entusiasmada con la idea de continuar la serie.

I bought this book to see if it lived up to its hype and because I love the fantasy genre. Unfortunately, it was rather disappointing. I must admit that the beginning of the story is quite captivating and made me want to know more about this mysterious assassin, Celaena Sardothien. I absolutely love badass female heroins which made me love Celaena instantly. However, once they arrived to the castle, the story became dull and boring. Even the development of the challenges in the competition were quite predictable. I also felt like the romance took over the story and that the pairing was quite forced (Celaena x Dorian). The parts that I really enjoyed where the ones that featured Nehemia and Celaena’s friendship, and Queen Elena. It would have been more interesting if the author had explored more about Celaena’s background as an assassin and how that affects her present. In this book she was depicted more like a princess rather than the great assassin she is suppossed to be. Overall the writing was good and some parts were beatifully written (like the featured quote) but I’m not very enthusiastic about continuing the series.
